networking problem: workst v6 running on vista host with fedora core 6 gue

I've been running workstation v6 on an XP host with fedora core 6 without problems.

I upgraded computers and now have a Vista host. I've installed workstation 6 and the fedora core 6 guest (new install of guest--not migrated). I used "other 2.6.x kernel" for the VM which has always worked under an XP host.

Anyway, all is well except the networking on the Vista host. At first, eth0 would not connect to anything.

Then I unchecked the automatic bridging under edit:virtual networking, and found out it was trying to bridge to the wireless adapter instead of the local area adapter.

Now when I try to ping a machine, the name resolution is working, but I can't get any action on the ping.

I restarted NAT networking and then did an /sbin/service network restart on the guest. Still get the same response to ping -- it prints the machines IP address properly, but then just hangs.

The guest and host can successfully ping each other. The host networking is working just fine. I just have one more issue on the network NAT sharing with the host.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have determined that changing the automatic bridging to a network adapter has no effect (and I think that's the way it should be since I'm sharing the IP with the host).

I've compared all my network settings with my fedora core 6 guest running on my XP machine as well as the workstation network settings. Aside from differences in the assigned IP addresses, they look the same.

Turns out the network has been working all along! I tried the web browser and ssh, and they work just fine.

For some reason the vista firewall won't allow the virtual machine to ping, but it will let vista ping. I just need to find the right firewall exeption to allow the virtual machine to get throught the vista firewall.
