My host system is XP32, physical memory size is 8 GB, the OS can managed size is 3.2GB.
I want to launch two virtual xp system by vmware player or workstation, and want to use the unmanaged part memory as the virtual xp system's physical memory.
Is it possible? if can and how to config the vmx file.
Please help me out with this. Thanks.
Hi
If the OS can only see 3.2 then that is all workstation will be able to see also unfortunately.

I suggest you upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit.
I changed the kernel file and the os can manage more than 8G memory.
Problem has been solved!
thank you!

Did you exchange the ntoskernel with one from 2k3 32 bit Enterprise edition ?
If yes - how did you do that - sounds interesting
Yeah, I'm also pretty interested on how you did it.

I found the patch in this chinese site. http://bbs.pediy.com/showthread.php?t=137830
I only know the memory size is not limited by x86 architecture, it is limited by microsoft. the role of patch is to modify the nt kernel file:ntkrnlpa.exe.
You can search something about ntkrnlpa.exe to find more infomation.
Well, that is true. Memory limits of x86 does not depend on the processor but on OS and its PAE (physical address extension) Mode.
Thanks for the link!
