often such issues are cause by UAC and/or virus scan/endpoint protection applications. Please try to run the installation by right clicking the .exe file and "Run as Administrator" to see whether this works, If it doesn't work please check whether the mentioned registry key already exists with incorrect permissions.

If the User Name contains any characters other then standard alphanumeric characters then try temporarily setting %TEMP% to C:\Temp after creating that directory. (This has been covered many time before... Google is your friend! )

Check your permissions in registry
- Open the registry (Start-Run -> regedit);
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Application
- Right-click on the Application key and select Permissions
- On Security tab verify that SYSTEM, Administrators has Full Control rights
if its correct continue:
- Click on the Advanced button
- Check the Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object
- Open the Owner tab, and verify that Current Owner is set to Administrators group
if not:
- Select Administrators, check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects and press OK
If nothing above works try to cleanup your computer form previous VMware Workstation releases if its applicable see:
