i cant use a partition from my physical hard drive...

hello, this's my first post and it's not easy to post in this community

i have two HDD, in the first im using two partition, one with vista x64 and the other for my personal data.... the second HDD have two partition, one with other data and de second partition to try to install a virtualmachine

the second partition is a RAW Disk without format... i tried to use this to install a virtual machine,... but i cant!!! i dont know what's the problem???

could you help me please

Can you use virtual disks rather than physical?

Obviously virtual disks perform better as physical disks on Vista hosts don't perform at all

There have been many tests performed on Raw vs Virtual performance, on ESX not Workstation, but almost all have shown that there is little to no difference between the performance of either one. In only the most extreme high I/O, enterprise SQL servers for example, has Raw out performed Virtual.

Vista 32 or 64bit as a host is fully supported by Workstation 6.0.

XP x64 works very well. I do not see any performance issues with using virtual disks.

It is much simpler, safer and more flexible approach.

my processor support virtualization technology, i have a ATHLON64 X2 4000+ "code Brisbane" 65nm @2.4ghz

i added monitor_control.enable_svm= "TRUE" my vmwareconfigurationfile,

i think than that technology must be an option to enable or disable in VMWARE WORKSTATION as VirtualPC or VirtualBOX

What AMD and

Intel did was extend x86 to make "Classic Virtualization" possible, very

similar to the old IBM mainframe virtualization. In other words, hardware virtualization support does not really "enhance" Binary Translation or Paravirtualization; it is a completely different approach. First generation hardware virtualization

was even a step back from a performance view, but one that enabled many steps forward.

The first generation of virtualization has been improved, and is now adopted by

VMware to support 64-bit guest OSes and by Xen to run unmodified OSes (such as Windows).

So right now, hardware virtualization still has a long way to go while software

virtualization is mature and represents the current standard
