how to roll a VM machine back?

Hi

I upgraded my VMware workstation  from 8 to 9.  Then I upgraded my machines to 9.  I want to roll back to VMware workstation 8 due to issues.  But my machines are no longer compatible.  I remember that by editing the .vmx file in note pad I was able to make a v7 machine work with v8 by deleting a few lines.

Is there a way I can edit the .vmx in my ver9 machines to make them compatible with Workstation 8?
