help with win7 host / winxp guest network problem

Win7 x64 host;

WinXP SP3 guest;

VMware Workstation 7.1.0 build-261024

Windows 7 can see all MSHOME or XP computers except for any virtual machines.

i can ping the VM machine just fine from the host. Network discovery on the network is slow (on the Windows 7 computer)...it takes 45 - 90 seconds to detect all the computers. The funny thing is...I am able to see the Windows 7 computer from XP computers just fine and quickly too. I can ping from XP to Windows 7 just fine.

VMnet1 and VMnet8 are automatically recognized as public networks and thusly controlled by windows 7 firewall. if, and only if, i disable firewall for both public and private networks can the host and VM machine fully communicate.

Currently the VM network settings are set for "bridged"

What other information should I give that would help you? Thanks!

btw...

i looked at link below, but not sure if it will help me. not really knowledgeable if i need to customize the script for my particular situation or run as is.

i have also looked at link below. but not certain if this is a problem corrected in version 7

ok i followed the advice on the link found below and "solved" my problem. as screenio suggested i "Fixed (or at least, circumvented). Added a second NIC to the virtual

machine that was NAT (the first NIC is bridged), and, voila! It works."

here is the link:

"windows xp x64 host and windows 7 x64 guest - can't connect to each other over bridged network to share files"
