We need to figure out, which license edition is used on a computer. This is because we want to update older installations of VMWare Workstation, but we want to skip installations, where a test center license is used (many of our users have local admin privileges and they might have installed VMWare Workstation using a eval license).
Is there a way to figure out (configuration files, registry keys ...) which license edition is used?
Kind regards
Bettina
for ws9 the license goes into this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VMware, Inc.\VMware Workstation\License.ws.9.0.e1.201202 - on 64bit hosts
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware Workstation\License.ws.9.0.e1.201202 - on 32bit hosts
We had a look for this key. But using eval licenses there is no difference between eval and ws licenses. In both cases the "LicenseType" value is "ws".
Any other ideas, or are we doing something wrong?
