discrepancy in disk size

et al,

Host: Windows 8 Pro x64

Guest: Windows 7 Ultimate x86 {30GB used HD space, 200GB maximum.  8GB ram}

Issue:

on the host, the vmdk is reporting a size of 101GB.  Despite the fact that in the VM, the guest OS reports only 30GB of usage.

I've cleaned the guest os hd.  I've defraged inside the guest os.  I've run vssadmin to get rid of any shadow copies.  Still just 30GB inside the guest os.

I've done the same on the host.

Can't figure out why the vmdk on the host is so big!

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks!

Having Snapshots consumes more Host disk space. Also running a defrag program from within the Guest actually causes it to use considerably more Host disk space.  Have a look at: Clean Up a Virtual Hard Disk on Windows Hosts

Thanks!  VM->Manage->Disk Clean up did the trick.
