compress a virtual machine

Running VMware Workstation 16 pro.

created a virtual machine that I need to give to a consultant for testing.

The folder is 26GB in size on the host os.

Can I use a tool like zip to compress that folder before giving it to the consultant?

The references I saw to this question were old and thus I was unsure if they applied.

By default all of the VM's required files are stored in a single folder. There's no problem with zipping the folder as these are basically normal files.
