With virtual hardware, you don't install your physical hardware drivers into a Guest OS. You install the VMWare Tools package which contains the drivers for your virtual hardware. Workstation doesn't support running Direct3D officially, however, you can checkout this link page for information, limitations and how to enable the experimental support for Direct3D.
