That is no error - that is the way it is expected to work.
Do NOT move a VM that is the base of a set of linked clones.
If you really must move the master-vmdks then you must fix the links manually.
To do that open the vmx-file of the linked clone and find all references to vmdks.
Once you have the list of vmdks that need to be changed - extract the embedded vmdk descriptor from the referenced vmdk - after that adjust the path and reinject the descriptor.
