I was trying to clone a VM and it faile with the following error:
An error occurred while cloning: Read beyond end of object.
I tried cloning another VM and it worked fine. The difference I could see is that the VM that failed to clone had a sub-directory called mksSandbox which the other one did not.
This sub-directory mksSandbox also caused another issue. I decided to delete a VM. So I selected the "Delete from Disk" option under manage and confirmed I wanted to delete it. When I went and looked in the directory where my VMs are the one I deleted was still present. It deleted all the vmx and vmdk files but it left the mksSandbox directory. So I ended up having to delete the VM manually.
The cloning issue was reported back in 2014, but I never saw a resolution.
I am running Workstation Pro 16.2.4 build-20089737.
