Is your host OS on the WS 12 compatibility list according to this VMware Knowledge Base document?

Hello,

thank you for your quick reply,

here is my information about my Windows 10:

- Windows 10 enterprise LTSC

- Version 1809

remarque:

from the link you did give it to me, I don't see my verion, so should I take example of Windows 10 1903 or Windows 10 1803?

I have alsoa license for workstation version 14.x I can try it too.

thanks for your support.

LTSC is not a typical consumer OS and I suppose this is why  it's not on the List.

I have still not figured out how you ended up with a different orientation of the guest desktop. To my knowledge you can't do that by changing the guest svga Display Settings (I just tried with a Win10 Pro guest, VMTools installed, and the Display Orientation setting is grayed out). Do you mean that a fresh guest install of Windows 10 will lead to a portrait orientation? Or does this happen only after you install the VMTools, and if this is the case, does uninstalling VMToos restore the orientation?

Since you can try version 14, please go ahead, since you will have better compatibility with more recent editions of Windows 10 guests (but for a Win10 2004 guest you'll still need WS version 15.5.6)

Perhaps there are some settings in the .vmx file you could try, but let's wait for a more experienced person to intervene for that.

yes, the Display Orientation was enabled in the beginning, and it will be grayed out just after installing VMware tools,

the Display Orientation will be available again after uninstalling of VMware Tools.

I will get back to you with other information after testing VMware 14.

thank you.

Hi,

I did test my VM under Vmware workstation version 15.5 and the same problem, the Display Orientation is grayed out..

The only way to get Display Orientation enabled is to uninstall Vmware tools.

Am I missing a setup or configuration that I need to do?

Best regards.

It seems that the current svga driver does not support portrait mode - unless we get a tip from advanced users.

The last thing I can think of is the role of the host graphics card driver - what driver do you use, the MS-provided one or the manufacturer's? Can you try a different driver, or update it to the latest version?

yes, it looks the VMWARE SVGA driver problem.

I did follow this link, step to change my driver card on HOST:

https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-components/how-set-default-graphics-card-3612668/

and the problem is the same.

information of Graphic Card:

I have to graphic Card on PC:

-- Intel(R) HD Graphics 530

-- NVIDIA Quadro M2000M

It seems you are using a laptop (did not expect that, might complicate things).

The latest Nvidia driver was released one week ago - try that NVIDIA DRIVERS Quadro Desktop/Quadro Notebook Driver Release 450 WHQL

Also, try increasing the Graphics Memory in Virtual Machine Settings - Hardware - Display.

yes, I am doing my test in an Laptop,

here is the list of test done:

-- I did update the driver for both of graphic card.

-- I did update the NVIDIA using the link you did send it to me.

-- I increase the Graphics Memory to 3 GB which is the max.

still having the same problem.

I will do those test in desktop to see, I let you know.

You can see if any of the instructions in knowledgebase article 1003 for manually adding video modes to the SVGA adapter will work.

Hi and thanks for your support.

I did follow the step to add modes in guest OS but it hase no effect.

I did uninstall the VMware tools and the Display Orientation is enabled again, so the SVGA tools does grey out the Display Orientation.

any suggestion for that?

regards.

Nope, sounds like the VMware SVGA driver doesn't support portrait mode, then.

last time Mits2020 told me: "It seems that the current svga driver does not support portrait mode - unless we get a tip from advanced users."

how can I get support from advanced users?

Regards.
