asyncsocket error when starting a shared vm in Workstation 11

Folks:

I'm trying to move a Windows Server 08 instance from one Workstation 11 install to another as a shared server.

When I try to start the VM (after copying it), I get an 'Asyncsocket error.'.

If the VM isn't shared, the instance appears to start fine.

I activated full logging for the VM, but the log file doesn't appear to contain any reference to the error.

Any ideas where I look to determine the cause?

Thanks!

david

OK, it appears that the error appears when I try to start ANY shared VM on that machine.

Hi David,

Welcome to Workstation Community!

If it's possible, could you try below steps:

  1. Uninstall VMware Workstation
  2. Uninstall other VMware products, like vSphere client
  3. Backup and then remove %ProgramData\VMware%
  4. Backup and then remove C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VMware\USB
  5. Install VMware Workstation back

We did meet this issue on only one laptop and then it could not be reproduced after above operations...

Hope it helps!

Regards,

Shawn
