arrow keys do not work when running guest os in init 3 run level Vmware workstation 7.1.1 build-282343

On a Core2Duo machine which does not supports vt.I created guest OSeS.

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 server OS as guest OS

Which does not have a GUI but just a console to login.

To my surprise the up and down arrow keys were not working on it.If I press up arrow key on a normal Computer where no Vmware is installed and then in bash I press up or down arrow key I used get the previous command same with pressing down key.

But when I do the same in Guest OS installed on vmware the Guest OS does not respond to up and down arrow keys.

To be sure that there is some issue with Vmware 7.1.1 build I tried the Ubuntu 10.04

which a home user will instal and switched to a console where gnome-desktop environment was not present.

CtrlAltSpace (release space and press F3 then holding Ctrl+Alt)

but then in this environment also the up and down arrow keys were not working.

What should I be doing for this.

Vmware workstation 7.1.1 build-282343

Host OS Version: 2.6.32-24-generic (It is Ubuntu 10.0464 bit)

The Guest OS in the problem are responding to left and right arrow keys but not up or down arrow keys.

PS in the host system the up and down arrow keys work normally.
