It depends he type of connection of your modem:

serial: add a serial port to your VM and "plug" it to the pysical serial port on the host (use Add Hardware wizzard)

usb: add USB port to your VM.

Hope this will help.

Best regards

Most PCI modems are Winmodems, and are not supported in a virtual machine. If it's an external modem and plugs into the serial port, it can usually be accessed as a generic serial device from within a virtual machine.

You would add a serial port to the virtual machine configuration using "VM" -> "Settings" and configure the serial port to use the same COM port as on the host for the modem.

I may be talking out of my hind quarters here, but:

what about if you create a serial port on the VM that points to the enumerated serial port on the host?

f.e. If your winmodem shows up as COM6 on the host, in the VM settings, link COM1for the VM to COM6 on the host? Then you should be able to use COM1 in the VM as a generic modem.

Sounds crazy I know, but it may be worth a shot. Suck it and see?
