accessing guest localhost from host machine when offline

Hi,

I have a host Windows and also a host Mac. My guest in both cases is a centos 5 which installs tomcat on localhos:8080. When running connected to internet behind my router, and using NAT, I can easily access the centos localhost tomcat with a 192.168 http address.

Is it possible to show a demo on this laptop when running disconnected to the internet, but access tomcat from host machine as described above?

Yep suppose you stil can connect to your guest VM using NAT though your host network (pNIC) disabled. Try disable host network, and ping your guest VM but first, set your VM to use NAT (vmnet8)

I tested this using a host ubuntu system with centos 5 guest.

Using NAT in the network editor for vmnet8, I was only able to see 192.168.x.x:8080 while my ethernet cable was plugged into my router. So I tried setting my VM to host-only and using vmnet1. Same thing. Not able to access tomcat webpage on the guest vm at 172.16.x.x even though I was able to ping that address!

I tried with and without checking local DHCP option in network editor.

I made sure to open port 8080 in iptables in guest vm.
