I have read everything I could find here about the above error message, which appears when I start a VMWare image after the host PC has been in hibernate mode.
I am using VMWare Workstation 5.5.4 build 44386
The host OS is Windows XP Pro (English) SP2
The guest OS is Windows 2003 Standard (English) / SP1
I have attempted both measures described in KB article 2039:
1) Adding
host.TSC.noForceSync = "TRUE"
to config.ini (also suggested in KB 928) shows no effect.
2) Adding
processors.NUMAnode = "2" (or "1")
to the .VMX file also has no effect. In fact, the line is removed the next time I use VMWare Workstation to open the .VMX file
The host machine is a Dell 620 with BIOS A08, which appears to be the newest version available from Dell.
Through the link "Machine Clock Reports Time Unpredictably on 64-Bit AMD Systems (kb.vmware.com/kb/2041)" in VMWare KB 928 I found a reference to MS Hotfix KB896256, which may in fact solve the problem. It's only luck that I found it, because the link refers specifically to AMD, yet the article is apparently relevant for Intel processors as well.
If the hotfix doen't solve it, is it really a problem? One of the posts in this thread:
http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=391976&;
suggests that it can be ignored.
This a Dell 620 laptop?
Post the boot.ini file from the XP host
I couldn't figure out how to make an attachment to this post, so here are the contents of boot.ini:
\[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
\[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
Hope that helps.
Thanks for your response!
