Workstation support on Intel XEON CPU?

I'm using a PC (HP Workstation Z840) where I want to use VM Workstation 12.5.

But this isn't supported as I have found.

Are there any future plans for support?

B.R.

Hans.

Hi Hans, and welcome to the VMware Communities!

I've taken a quick look at the Z840 specifications and I don't immediately see any reason why Workstation 12.5 would not work on such a system.

Are you receiving an error message when you attempt to install Workstation or run virtual machines?  If so, please share the error message and we can try to figure out what's going wrong.

Cheers,

Hello Hans,

I had a quick look at the specs of the HP Z840 and it says this:

2 Intel Xeon Processors E5-2600 v3/v4 family

That's pretty standard and I would not know why that would not be supported.

I guess you looked for this specific HP model on a Hardware Compatibility list (perhaps the vSphere one?) and didn't see it listed?

The thing is that Workstation does not have such a list as far as I am aware.

The closest thing that comes to mind is this part in the documentation:

VMware Workstation 12 Pro Documentation Center

Only CPUs that are very very new might have an issue and you can be certain that VMware would try to get that resolved asap.

Just install the VMware Workstation in demo mode. You've got 30 days to find out if it works well for you.

After that you can convert the demo install in a full install by supplying the license (no need to reinstall anything)

Try VMware Workstation Pro, Run Linux and Windows in a Virtual Machine
