Workstation server not persistent across reboots after upgrading to 12.5.7

I was running Workstation Pro 12.5.2, on Windows 8.1 Pro x64.

I upgraded to 12.5.7 and have the following issues:

1. All of my VMnets reverted to the three default, when installing Workstation as a first time

2. I had five VMs as Shared VMs;  after the upgrade (and reboot) they didn't start up

    a.  I tried to see why, and found the server was disabled

    b.  Enabled the server and tried rebooting -- same problem, server was disabled

    c.  Removed all shared VMs, rebooted, re-enabled server and shared one VM

    d.  After a host reboot, I have the same issue;  Edit/Preferences/Shared VMs are disabled.

Has anyone else had this issue, and perhaps fixed it?

This can be caused by several reasons:

1. Please check if 443 port is used by other applications on your host. If yes, please change the port in Workstation Preferences > Shared VMs > HTTPS port

2. This can also be caused by a broken upgrade which might be caused by other VMware applications installed in you host. Please do the following to remove Workstation and install again.

1) Uninstall Workstaiton

2) Launch Windows cmd with administrator, and do the following to stop and remove related services

sc stop VMwareHostd

sc stop VMAuthdService

sc stop hcmon

sc stop VMUSBArbService

sc delete VMwareHostd

sc delete VMAuthdService

sc delete hcmon

sc delete VMUSBArbService

3) Delete related drivers (if exist) under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers:

hcmon.sys,

3) Restart Windows host

4) Install VMware Workstation again.

Please let me know if above works for you.

there are few issues reported by customers with the combination of windows 8/10 + workstation 12.5.7.  Please refer .

Workstation crash after reseting VMs

I would recommend to downgrade to 12.5.5.
