I am running workstation 5.5.3. I created a virtual machine running Red Hat Enterprise Server 4. When I boot the system it hangs just after Enabling swap space. Any ideas?
Anything reported in the vmware.log file from the virtual machine?
Was this working before or is this a new install?
When you created the VM, did you select RHEL 4 as the OS type.
Post the .vmx file from the virtual machine.
It was a new install and it was working. But the system must have been rebooted. I have answered the question to check the file system. I have done a number of reboots on the system and did manage to get the system back up, but I rebooted the system nd again it is hanging just after the enabled swap space msg. Yes, I selected RHEL 4 when I built the machine. I will post the log and vmx,

Can it boot when you get in single-user mode?

You may also want to remove the virtual CD-ROM drive, Sound adapter & USB controller from the virtual machine configuration . Just to confirm that it's not one of the virtual devices that is hanging the VM
I am able to boot into single user mode. Though I am not very glib on linux, once I am logged in under single user mode. Any clues on what I do next?
I have configed the USB, CD-Rom & Sound to not connect at power on. Still unable to complete bootup.
When you are in single user mode try to disable the activation of the swap space and then reboot normally. Let me know the result of this operation.
