Workstation does not wake up sleeping printer

I am running Workstation 12 Pro 12.5.5 on Windows 10 64-bit.

I recently bought a new Brother All-In-One multi-functional machine MFC-L2720DW.

Like many modern printers, after a period of inactivity the printer goes into a sleep mode.

On my host OS it an be easily woken up by simply sending another print job to it.

On my VM however, it shows as being in an off-line mode.

The only way to knock it off from that state is to physically cycle power on the printer.

When it comes back to life, my VM recognizes it and changes its status to on-line.

These frequent triips to the printer are getting on my nerves.

I contacted Brother and after my own tests concluded that there is nothing wrong with
the printer (on the host it behaves perfectly correctly) but it must be on the side of my VM.

I completely removed the VMWare Tools and then did the COMPLETE re-install.
No complains during the process about the thin print driver or anything like that.

Can anyone help with this?

I've been seeing the same thing on a HP LaserJet pro model.  My VMs are on bridged networks so there should be no network routing issues. I can send a page from another computer, and that usually kicks the other pages from the vm out.
