I copied a VM from my archives, one that was operational some years ago. When I try to run it I get the message:
Unable to open file "F:\VMWare\SoftwareDev3_x64\Windows 7 Pro x64-cl1.vmdk":
The system cannot find the file specified.
The files does exist but Workstation is not able to use it. I have searched here for a solution but so far have not found a way to start the VM.
What a beautiful example for teamwork - warms the heart in this dark times !!!
Andre, Wil - lets finish this. Lets collect empty slices for all versions that are in use these days and upload them to a longterm stable location where we can download them with a link like ...
That will be very useful in future - we need those blank sizes every one or two weeks ....
Good idea, but with individual file sizes depending on the provisioned disk size, it's easier to create such files from the command line using vmware-vdiskmanager. In this case I wasn't able to create the required .vmdk from the GUI.
Many thanks for the help. I copied the file suggested and used the file embedded in the PowerPoint and the VM was able to boot. I tried to run check disk however Windows said it could not do that, so, I restarted the VM to see if the C: drive check disk would run, it did not appear to run.
The project files I wanted to recover appear to be good, so I am hoping this process was a success.
Again, many thanks for this recovery, it is very much appreciated.
