Workstation 9 - no "Nat settings button" neither "edit" on Linux host

Hi all, I have a problem as the subject says - it is a bit difficult to evaluate software without any support.

I did not found any answers (ggogle , vmware).

Please help screenshot attached.

host OS = Fedora Core 16

[root@srv2 /]# uname -a

Linux srv2 3.4.11-1.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Sep 16 13:50:06 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I just need to test port forwarding to a virtual machine behind NAT .. it seems it should run fine on Windows - but no Linux ?

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101880...

Please help screenshot attached.

>>Note: The NAT Settings options are not available for Linux hosts.

Try using bridged mode. I RDP and VNC into VM's running under Linux all the time. I run Ubuntu 11.04.

I do other port forwarding via the router, but that is from the "outside".

If that is not what you are trying to do, perhaps you should explain in more detail.

thanks, I have found

/etc/vmware/vmnet8/nat/nat.conf

and in section

[incomingtcp]
# Use these with care - anyone can enter into your VM through these...
# The format and example are as follows:
#<external port number> = <VM's IP address>:<VM's port number>
#8080 = 172.16.3.128:80
[incomingudp]
# UDP port forwarding example
#6000 = 172.16.3.0:6001

probably things can be set up ...

I will try to investigate further

The above reply has wrong information. mmmm90 has correct information below.

Please, if you're going to take the time to respond, at least provide correct and complete information. I.e.

  • Path to nat.conf file (as mmmm90 provided).
  • How to restart the service

I find it pathetic that VMware has not documented and supported the network editor on Linux hosts. Linux is a dramatically more efficient host than Windows.
