Workstation 7.1.3 update - broke networking?

I use Bridged networking, it worked fine with older version of VMware Workstation.

But recently I updated VMware Workstation to 7.1.3, and now networking won't work.

Any suggestions? Using Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate host, with the built-in Windows 7 firewall. Guests I tried include Vista and WinXP Pro.

Using a WiFi router, that the PC is connected to via a wire.

Hi

did you already disable "automatic bridging" in vmnetcfg ?

here are some more tips to verify if setup of network was a success:

I'm not sure what's causing this, however I would try to run "Restore Default" in the Virtual Network Editor.

from the Workstation Help:

Caution The Restore Default button restores all the network settings to the default settings. Changes made to the network settings since you installed Workstation are lost permanently. Do not restore to default network settings when the virtual machine is powered on, this may cause serious damage to the Bridged networking.

vmnetcfg - is that the Virtual Network Editor?? EDIT: Hmm, yeah, seems the EXE is called like this.

Hmm, disabling Automatic Bridging in the Virtual Network Editor seems to have solved this issue.

Anyway, I never had to change that setting with the older versions of Workstation.

Will I have any problems with the Bridging set to one network card only?

I was able to verify it works in two ways:

1) Gets an IP from router, shows the Network icon in Tray area. Does not say "Limited or no connectivity" (which it always said).

2) Can ping sites on the Internet.

Nope - thats the first thing I do whenever I install Workstation.

Automatic bridging only works if your host has one nic only - and then it is quite useless.

I am seeing the resurfacing of a bug with the "automatic bridging" that

requires I reset networking to defaults when I undock and redock, the

wired nic dissapears from being able to be the bridged nic.

This was broken in early 7.x builds, fixed and now it seems broken again.
