Workstation 6 vs 5?

Hi, I'm using Workstation 5.5.2 on Linux host and am considering buying 6.

Looking for opinions and experiences from those who have already made the switch, what are some of the new features?

TIA

Easiest is to read either the release notes for the current beta, or the initial press release just after VMworld last year. TONS of new features - if I try to list them again, I'm sure to miss several.

As far as the purchase - you might want to investigate a Silver support contract instead - it's cheaper than the upgrade price and includes all upgrades and unlimited web-based and email-based Support Requests! They've been doing major version upgrades on a cycle between 1.5 and 2.5 years, so basically the support pays for itself; and if you need to submit any SRs, they're basically freebies. Smiley Happy

Kthx Smiley Happy

Looks like I'll DL the beta and try it out on the XP side; don't want to interfere with my main devel environment. (I'm already triple-booting: XP + Player / 64-bit Ubuntu + Workstation / 32-bit Ubuntu + Server!)

Apparently not. I just spent a bunch of time with a VMWare sales person on the phone and upgrades only apply to support contracts added on at the time of purchase. So you can't add a support contract onto an existing VMWare license (or at least not mine ... Smiley Happy

That's odd. I added mine a few months after my 30-day free support had run out. It was only a few months after I had purchased the copy of Workstation, so maybe they considered it still within some window... but I know I was able to do it. You may want to talk to your local area sales rep.
