Workstation 17.0.2 on kernel 5.15: working

Some month ago I did some test of Workstation 17.0.0 on linux kernel 5.*.

On 5.10.* it worked out of the box, on 5.15.* module compile failed and I had to use these patches:

https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules/

Some day ago I did another test, with Workstation 17.0.2 on kernel 5.15.114: it worked without patches.

Have there been some changes on vmware side? Or on kernel side?

It's more likely that Workstation 17.0.2 has updated its bundled files needed to compile the modules. There was a recent post from another user that the modules in 17.0.2 worked out of the box for a recent kernel without having to resort to the mkubecek modules.

It's not clear whether the released files from VMware are good for all kernel versions, so keep the mkubecek modules in your back pocket just in case...
