The VMware documentation describes setting up virtual printer for guest printing. Add a printer device to guest and then install virtual printer software in guest. Great. Now a printer icon shows up in guest. I plug in my usb printer, and a second printer icon shows up representing the usb printer. So I deleted the virtual printing software and removed the printer device from the guest. I can still print to my host usb printer. What is the advantage of added a printer device and installing the virtual printer software? Is it for non-usb network printers? If I only intend to use USB printing, is there any advantage to adding printer device and virtual printer software? Appreciate any insight on this.
