Workstation 12.5.5 & Win 10 Creators Update (no USB Devices)

Workstation 12.5.5 build 5234757 does not see any USB devices if you upgrade to the Windows 10 Creators Update. Nothing you do will allow the USB devices to be discovered. The devices do not even appear under the VM -- Removable Devices menu.

I rolled back my Win 10 update and everything works now.

Just be aware of this.

The solution:

  1. Run: services.msc
  2. Find the service: VMware USB Arbitration Service
  3. Right click on this service and select Properties
  4. Set Start-up type to "Automatic (Delayed Start)"

Autostart will never work, you must use Delayed Start

Note: This also solves the No USB Devices Problem in Workstation 12.5.6 running on Windows 10 Creators Update.

Same problem here. Fortunately I took an image of my PC before installing the Creators update. Normally I can see my USB camera and headset in the removable devices. Now there is nothing.

Are you sure? I'm on 12.5.6 right now and it's not fixed. I did a totally clean install, I also used their registry cleaner. I still have to use "delayed start". Auto still doesn't work.

The following was helping.

  • Uninstall VMware Workstation 12 pro 12.5.7.
  • Delete all registry keys and folders of workstation 12 (under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VMware and under C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware)
  • Install the VMware Workstation 12.5.7 totally new

and everything is working fine.
