Workstation 11 - create shortcuts new functionality - what does it do?

Hi,

I thought that the new VMWare Workstation 11 "create shortcut" feature allowed you to put a shortcut to a VM file on your desktop and it would take you into the VM itself. For me, it just brings up Workstation 11. If the VM is running, it still brings up Workstation 11 which will have the VM running.

Is this right?

I thought that it would be like the vmware utility in Workstation 10 which allowed you start a VM by clicking on a shortcut. This shortcut associates the VM with VMWare professional just like a text file is associated with Notepad and it does nothing more.

If the create shortcut can do more e.g. start the VM, then please let me know how to do it. I cannot find any instructions so I could be completely wrong on this functionality.

Thanks

Jason

You can automatically power on a VM by making a shortcut to vmware.exe instead. Use this as the shortcut's target:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware.exe" -t -x C:\path\to\YourVM\YourVM.vmx
