Anytime I do this sequence of operations, my guest OS comes up in meager 640x400 resolution instead of the usual 1400x1050.
This happens even if I merely suspended the guest (as opposed to shutting it down) before the quit/restart.
This did not used to happen; only in the past few months.
At the same time, I run a Windows 7 guest in another tab (so it goes through the same procedure), and it comes up full resolution.
Any ideas? My vmx config file is attached.
I solved the problem by downloading QRes and running in the Windows XP guest:
"C:\Program Files\QRes\QRes" /x 1680 /y 1050
This not only changed the resolution once, it seems to have fixed the problem completely for every boot.
Still happening after upgrading to VMware Workstation 10.0.2 build-1744117.

Seven years later, this bug still exists in Workstation 16 Pro.
