Windows 11 update, no longer able to start VM with VT-x/EPT enabled

Hello,

After a windows 11 update, I am suddenly unable to start my VM. I have "Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT" selected as I need to run docker and k8s within my VM. I have tried the following:

  • Hyper-V is disabled on my laptop
  • in cmd as admin, bcedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off (followed by restart)
  • in powershell as admin, Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -featureName Microsoft-Hyper-V-All (followed by restart)

None of these are working. I am blocked. Any further help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit to add: A few more things I tried:

  • I checked in BIOS and Intel VT is enabled.
  • I tried uninstalling/reinstalling VMWare

Neither of those helped. However next I rolled back what parts of the Windows update that I could, and now I am finally able to restart the VM with Intel VT enabled.

So it seems there is some change applied in the new Windows security update that breaks Intel VT for the VM. I hope that VMWare will look into this.
