Windows 10 on VM Workstation 11

Hi - I am having trouble with Windows 10 on VM Workstation 11.

I have had Windows 10 installed as VM workstation 11 since November last year and it has been updating fine. A couple of months ago i tried to join Microsoft Insider Program, but each time i tried to install a new version of insider it gets to around 28% reboots and fails. Windows then reverts back to previous build. So i decided to remove the insider releases but again updates fail - including the recent anniversary update that i tried automatically and manual.

So, I thought it maybe a problem with the VM that i was using, so I decided to install Windows 10 from the ISO file, after going through the install options the VM re-boots and i get a blue screen stating a Stop Code: KMODE EXPTION NOT HANDLED - I have tried this a number of times but still the same issue.

I can confirm that in my BIOS settings of my laptop that VT is enabled - i checked this as I read somewhere Windows 10 sometimes disables this.

Does any one have any ideas what the issue is?

Is Workstation 11 still compatible with Windows 10 or do I need to upgrade to VM Workstation 12?

Thank you in advance for you help.

Below is the Host OS compatibility list for VMware workstation 6.0 through 11.0. I do not see Windows 10 in the list.

When I check the Host OS compatibility for the Workstation 12, I see that it is supported to run on Windows 10. Which kind of indirectly points that Windows 10 onwards Workstation 12 pro has to be used.

I'm having the same issue, a fresh install of Windows 10 build 1607 will crash after rebooting the first time during install.

I've been using all the various Windows 10 builds on Workstation 10 without issues, I've just upgraded it to 11.1.4 as that is the latest I'm entitled to and the crashing is the same.

As a test I've installed W10 1511 perfectly in the same VM that crashes on 1607 with the kmode exception.

W10 1607 is running fine on WS 11.1.2, host is Mint 17.1.

Installed on top of 1511 via setup on the iso.

(not a leading edge kind of guy ):smileyhappy:
