Win 2008 R2 shuts down unexpectedly

When running Widows 2008 R2 on VMware Workstation 7.1.4 the guest OS quite often just shuts down. It does not crash, just initiates a shutdown, but quite random.

I have seen this on both my laptop and desktop computer. What can be causing this?

Have you checked the event logs to see if they have any useful messages?

I thought I had, but when looking again I saw something that seemed like a license trouble. The machine was a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise, running on trial licence, but begun to shut down just after some days. After some more research it showed that Enterprise must be licenced directly, but Standard Edition could be run for some months on trial, which suits me good when doing labs at home.

So the solution was really to delete the VM and reinstall with Windows 2008 R2 Standard. Thanks for the help!
