Why does VMWare 15.5 report incompatibility with Windows 10 V1903 Pro?

VMWare 15.5 (Workstation Pro) reports incompatibility with Windows 10 Pro V1903. It suggests disabling Credential Guard.

Credential Guard is not part of Windows 10 Pro, and so it cannot be disabled.

Attempts to turn off Credentials Guard with command scripts resulted in Windows Failing to boot.

The error is misleading. I found the solution in my notes for a previous problem:

  1. In an elevated command prompt type: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
  2. Reboot

This only has to be repeated after major updates of Windows 10, such as V1903
