Where is vmware’s preferences file?

I have VMware WorkStation 15 Pro version 15.5.0 installed. The guest OS is Ubuntu 20.04. Now I want to follow instructions in this article to enable mesa DRI driver. However, I cannot find

.vmware/preferences

and

/etc/vmware/config

which are claimed in the article to be the "vmware’s preferences file". If the article is out of date, where is the vmware’s preferences file in VMware WorkStation 15 Pro for a specific user and globally, respectively? In addition, by setting

mks.gl.allowBlacklistedDrivers = TRUE

in the preferences file, can I really enable 3D graphics? Thanks.

Hi

Those are the filenames ...

If they don't exist, you can create them.

Note that we can't say anything about "if it will fix your problem", because we don't know what hardware you are having.

FWIW, this might help:
https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Pro/No-3D-support-available-from-host/td-p/2312...

PS: you can also just add that line to the .vmx file for your VM instead of modifying the configuration globally. That is usually the better approach to see if things work well and not cause instability on all your VMs.
