When booting VMware Workstation Pro 12.5 (for Windows), today, I see the upgrade notice pop-up for v14. At this point, VMware is locked up, spinning.

When booting VMware Workstation Pro 12.x (for Windows), today, I see the upgrade notice pop-up for v14.  At this point, VMware is locked up, spinning.    

If I use VMware Workstation player 12, all is good (minus the features from Workstation Pro I need).

I have uninstalled, reinstalled and used Repair options.

Ideas?

Have you tried to disable the phone-home functions in Menu > Edit > Preferences > Updates  and Menu > Edit > Preferences > Feedback

Well,  I could not get that far, it was locked up.  I was able to finally get there.  Running  Player then shut down and running Workstation immediately allowed me to disable checking for upgrades.
