What's the story with cloning vm's with pre-allocated disks?

If I recall right when I cloned (full clone) my vm's in the past using 6.0.* that had pre-allocated disks they were pre-allocated disks after the clone process was completed. Now when I clone (full clone) using 6.5.1 they are converted to growable disks. If I wanted growable disks, I would have setup them up that way when I created the vm. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening, whether by design or is it a bug?

Thank you,

Scott

Hi Scott,

I don't remember the past behavior off the top of my head.

Should I have any free time, I will look at the two versions.

For now, you can use vmware-vdiskmanager to convert from growable to pre-allocated

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if I can find Workstation 6.0.* installed somewhere and see if I can verify my initial statement.

Thank you,

Scott

its a pity that in 6.5. direct full clones with vmware-vdiskmanager are no longer possible 😐

One of the guys I work with has 6.0.3 and it too doesn't clone a vm with pre-allocated correctly either. I hope this issue is addressed at some point.
