Greetings to this community. I have tried hard to find the definitive answer to my question by reading release notes and vatious compatibility guides posted on the VMware site before seeking help here, but I am just too confused by all the variables involved in the online documentation. I hope someone will be kind enough to tell me exactly which is the latest version/build of Workstation Pro compatible with the following laptop specs...
Lenovo X220 laptop
Host OS - Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
CPU - Intel Core i3-2370M CPU @ 2.40GHz (Sandy Bridge-MB SV) (has Virtual Machine Extensions (VMX)
Intel vPro Features - CPU VT-x support, BIOS VT-d support
8GB RAM (expandable to 16GB)
I bought a license for Workstation Pro years ago (when v11 was current) and my v11.1.0 runs just fine with Windows XP and Windows 7 guest VMs. I also had some older Linux VMs in the past which ran well, but I've mislaid them.
So, basically I would like to know, how far up I can go with updating Workstation Pro (e.g. v12.x.x or what?)
TIA
Ciao
Reading this document, you might also try 15.5:
Supported host operating systems for Workstation Pro 12.x, 14.x, 15.x (2129859) (vmware.com)
CPU Requirements for VMware Workstation 14.x , 15.x & 16.x (51643)
The Intel Core i3-2370M CPU (Sandy Bridge) was released in Q1 2012
This article states that your host OS is supported for 15.5: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2129859
But 16.x is only supported on 8.1 U3 and later: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/80807
This article states that your CPU is supported for 15.x too: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/51643
