Warning: Read before installing RHEL4 on Workstation 6.5

When I installed RHEL4 I failed to notice that VMWare causes most of Anaconda's installation wizard to be totally SKIPPED. The installer never asked me about partioning, languages, or apps to install, notthing. It just formated the disk with some poor defaults and began installing default applications.

The result was a 3.4 GB / partition And / was nearly full after installation. I did not notice this and installed my own stuff, mostly in /home.

Weeks later I went to install Qt4 and found only 33 MB left in / and 20 GB left in /home.

This wasted a lot of my time as I now have to reinstall everything.

Fix

When you install, tell VMware to not install any OS, just create a blank disk. After that boot and install as you normally would. Anaconda now works properly.

VMware must have some default script for unattended installs....I am guessing.

It is a bug either way.
