WS6: a problem about independent disk

Hi:

I am trying to use independent disk to save some data when reverting a VM. But after I add a new virtual disk (independent and persistent) to the current VM (it is a link clone), I cannot take a new snapshot. The menu for taking snapshot is disabled. I don't know why?

I just want to use two disks: one is normal and contains applications, the other one contains the data. When some bad things happen, I will revert the application disk and keep the data disk. How can I do that ?

Thanks.

If you have an independent disk, you can take snapshots only after the VM is powered-off.

The reason for this is that because while the VM is running, there might be programs in the guest actively using files on the independent disk. If you took a snapshot at this point and at some later date reverted to it, then that means from the guest's perspective, the disk suddenly changed from underneath it while it was still in use.
