WS 12.5 hostd fails to run on RHEL 6.8

I upgraded to WS 12.5 this morning and immediately found that hostd fails:

/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-hostd: /lib64/libz.so.1: version `ZLIB_1.2.3.3' not found (required by /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libvmacore.so/libvmacore.so)

I currently have zlib-1.2.3-29.el6.x86_64 installed, so does this mean that Workstation 12.5 does not support RHEL6?

FWIW I manually installed zlib 1.2.8 and hostd now runs fine, but this makes me wonder what other dependencies on newer libraries lurk around.  Also there never was a 1.2.3.3 release of ZLIb which makes me wonder if VMWare has mixed versions with patchlevels on their hosts, or what distro WS is built on?

Thanks for your detail info, that helps us a lot.

It's a defect, we've opened a bug to track it. Workstation has the module Zlib1.2.8, it should not use the module from host OS.
