WMware-workstation-full-7.1.6-744570 fails to install on Windows 10

WMware-workstation-full-7.1.6-744570 failed to install on Windows 10. I got the following error message:

Error: This product can only be installed on Windows XP or later. Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, and 2000 are not supported.

Only Workstation 12 and later are supported on Windows 10: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2129859
