WM WS v16.2.4 Processor and or core change resulting in CPU not Supported

Good day all,

After reading through the following threads:
https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Pro/VMWare-Workstation-16-not-supported-on-my-s...
https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Pro/CPU-not-supported/td-p/527728
https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Pro/Workstation-16-1-2-Pro-under-Windows-11-hos...

I have managed to get the VM guest working again,
however with a slight issue.
I had to reduce the Processor and Core settings to ... 1 and 1.
The previous setting was 2 and 2 (which ran well for about 4 months with no issue until) before the guest did a windows update.
Now it will only use the 1 and 1 settings. I have changed to various settings with no luck.

The host machine is:
Windows 11, 22H2
64Gb Ram
11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11980HK @ 2.60GHz 3.30 GHz

Is there anything I can do to increase the Processors or the cores?
Is there something I missed?

Thank you for your time.

Are you running Hyper-V role on your Windows host (the hardware running the VMs)? In that case the only stable VMWare Workstation I have found is 16.2.2. No other version works without severe bugs. Also, I can only run the VMs with 1,2,4 and 12 cores. All other core counts cause my Windows 2019 VMs to hang during startup. I have tried a number of versions of VMWare tools but the behavior seems the same.

Remember that you may have the Hyper-V role enabled without knowing. For example WSL2 and "Android on Windows" enables the Hyper-V role in the background.

My system consists of a Ryzen 9 3900X 12 core processor (24 cores with "hyperthreading") and 128 Gb RAM. Running Windows 10 and using WSL2 which means Hyper-V is enabled. The issue seems to be affecting mainly my Windows 10 and Windows 2019 VMs, but the Linux ones (CentOS and Rocky) seems to have some hiccups in other versions than 16.2.2.

Good day, SDynamics,

Thanks for the information.
I will either roll back or just install V16.2.2 again.

Thank you again, really appreciate the assistance.

Kind regards,
Cliff
