WKST Pro 15 + WIN10 Guest NVMe driver + Intel Optane 905P 960GB

Just tested the following:

- Host OS: WIN 10 Enterprise 1803

- Workstation Pro 15.0.2

- 1 VM with Guest OS: WIN 10 Enterprise 1803 running built-in vmware NMVe driver

The hardware is:

- Gigabyte Z390 MASTER M/B (Bios F6)

- Intel i9-9900K 8-core 3.6GHz CPU at stock

- Intel Optane 905P 960GB PCIe 3.0 x 4 NMVe card connected to CPU lanes (boos OS + VM running on this card)

- 64GB 2666Mhz RAM (4 x 16GB Kingston at stock speed)

- Nvidia Quadro P2000 5GB graphics card

CrystalDiskMark shows that the VM when using the vmware NVMe driver runs about 40% slower on 4KQ1 random R/W compared to when running SAS SCSI driver. I remember seeing something similar with WKST 14, so its still not fixed.

Anybody have better results?

VMWARE, can you please fix this? Thanks.

The WKST Pro version 16.1.2 NVMe driver is still significantly slower than the bare-metal disk driver. Especially the RND4K-Q1T1 results are 5x faster on the bare-metal Host vs the Guest NVMe driver.

Software:

Both Host and Guest OS are on WIN10-21H1-Enterprise; WKST Pro 16.1.2. CrystalDiskMark 8.04.

Hardware:

Gigabyte Z390 Master M/B with BIOS F9;  Intel 905p 960GB PCIe x4 OPTANE SSD;  Intel i9-9900K CPU and 64GB RAM;  Nvidia Quadro P2000 Graphics card with 5GB.

I hope VMware fixes this real soon, since WKST Pro release 15 and release 16 were both announced as having significant better NVMe performance. But the Guest RND4K-Q1T1 is still far too slow.

Thanks.
