Hi all,
Recently I got my dell laptop1420 with built in
windows vista. I installed vmware workstation ACE edition 6.0.4
build-93057. As a guest OS I selected linux redhat(fedora 8). when I
try to power on my guest os (Linux) it had given "eth0 device is down".
When I try to bridge manually using vmware network editor, I
found strange thing.. "automatically choose an available physical
network adapter to bridge to VMnet0" option in automatic bridging is
entirly disabled. even
for addition it is not showing any network adapters.
from last one month I am trying to solve this problem. But I am not able to solve this issue.
Please some one kindly provide any suggetion to resolve this issue.
Details about the system
Vmware workstation ACE edition version: 6.0.4 build 93057.
host os: windows vista
guest os: fedora 8
network adapter: Broadcom netlink fast ethernet
intel wireless adapter
Thanks and regards,
Sukumar
Have you checked the network adapter properties of your host's NICs, to verify that the VMware Bridge Protocol service is added/enabled in the list? Are you running the Virtual Network Editor as the Administrator?
yes I am working as an administrator only...
and about bridge protocol, NIC's having check mark for this bridge protocol.
NICs - plural ?
Only one nic should have the check-box marked unless you have configured more than one bridged network.

But in my laptop, both wire(broadcom netlink) and wireless(intel wireless Wifi 4965AGN) interfaces have check mark for this vmware bridge protocol?
Try to disable automatic-bridging - menu > edit > virtual network settings > automatic bridging.
Next go to tab > host virtuaql network mapping and configure one of your two nics for vmnet0
Check if that makes a difference

Thats what I am saing... vmware network editor was not allowing me to enable to disable automatic bridging. that option went into block mode(i.e it is not in active).
Try to disable automatic-bridging - menu > edit > virtual network settings > automatic bridging.
Next go to tab > host virtuaql network mapping and configure one of your two nics for vmnet0
Check if that makes a difference
That's his problem - he can't do that as the checkbox is disabled in the editor.
OP: Have you specifically run the Virtual Network Editor AS the Administrator (start via the RunAs command)? On Vista hosts, you MUST do this.
I tried this option also... no use.
Is there any security issues in windows vista, that are blocking for this bridging?.
please help me.
Can any one help me out.
Thanks and regards,
Sukumar
