Vmware tools - cannot extract tar to install - Read only file system

I can mount the CDrom to install vmware tools  - I su to root

run tar xzf

No such file or directory

tar: vmware-tools-distrib: Cannot mkdir: Read-only file system

tar: vmware-tools-distrib/lib/plugins32/vmsvc/libdeployPkgPlugin.so: Cannot open: No such file or directory

tar: vmware-tools-distrib: Cannot mkdir: Read-only file system

tar: vmware-tools-distrib/lib/plugins32/vmsvc/libtimeSync.so: Cannot open: No such file or directory

tar: vmware-tools-distrib: Cannot mkdir: Read-only file system

tar: vmware-tools-distrib/lib/plugins32/vmsvc/libautoUpgrade.so: Cannot open: No such file or directory

tar: vmware-tools-distrib: Cann

/dev/sr0 /run/media/auser/VMware\040Tools iso9660 ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1500,gid=1500,iocharset=utf8,mode=0400,dmode=0500 0 0

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Extract them into /tmp.

cd /tmp; tar xfz /run/media/auser/VMware\040Tools/...

thanks - was it because the directory I was in was for the CDrom and it is RO? That seams so obvious now - Thanks again

Yes, you were in a directory on the RO CDROM.  The instructions for the installation could be improved.
