Vmware install will not run

Hi

I have a problem when I am trying to install VMWare workstaion (5.5.1 ) , the problem is when I want to start the install program nothing will happen.

I have Win xp and I also tried with Vmware player but the same problem.

I can install other applications but the problem is just with any setup from vmware , any idea why ?

I am having the same problem. I am trying to create my first VM and I cannot get the machine to startup the install disk using either a physical DVD or an iso image. I click on the Startup Machine Triangle and nothing happens.

Hi Ayad,

I would take this opportunity to download VMware Workstation 5.5.3, since it's a free upgrade from 5.x.x.

You could also have a corrupted installer and the upgrade would take care of that issue.

What is reported when you type "msiexec" from the command line

Hi again

The command gives me an information window about windows installer version 3.0.1.

Hi Ayad,

Microsoft installer version 3.0.1 should work.

You may want to still try with 5.5.3. You could also look at the installer log files for any clues as to why it is failing, The file names are vmmsi.log, vminit.log and setupapi.log
