I have the same issue.

I also cannot start vmware. It wants to install modules which results in vmware-gksu crashing:

Instead I tried running vmware-modconfig --console --install-all which is unable to compile all modules. Specifically vmnet.ko and vmblock.ko fails to build. vmmon, vmci and vmsock succeeds.
