Vmware 9 on Fedora 18 stopped working

Hi VMWare workstation 9 has suddenly stopped loading under Fedora 18 / KDE - was working fine before. As far as I know I haven't done anything to break it.

If I try and run it nothing happens, if I run it from the command line I get no errors, it just doesn't work - there appers to be no logs.

I've tried removing it and reinstalling it.

Vmware player doesn't work either.

My kernel version is 3.7.4-204.

Any idea how I can diagnose the problem? Turn on verbose loging, etc. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Unfortunately I rely on VMWare to do my job, and I really don't want to have to boot into Windows.

Thanks

Same thing happeed to  me on Fedoa 19.  Everything  workinig   fine - then this   runninig  vmware  from command line

vmware:12727): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_get_qdata: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

Extremely helpful:smileyconfused:

kernel 3.9.0-0.rc5.git1.301.fc19.x86_64

VMware installed  and compiled without a  problem.  Only  had to add the Serial number manually in the h license file - happens  regularly in newer kernels but some kinid soul possted a fix.

Just upgraded the Kernel to 3.8.5 still no joy.

Might try and downgrade VMWare to an older version of 9.

Still will be great to know how to put VMWare into Verbose mode so that I can see exactly whats going wrong - otherwise I'm just stabbing in the dark.

You get more ouptu directly if you run vmware efrom from the come line.  Ther is quite a bit more data in /var/log (don't know the exact file file name but its something like vmware-installer log - you will fiind.  May not help much  in the sense of hacking ther problem however.

No command line wasn't giving me anything - quite a bit of info in the tmp dir though.

I managed to sort it, don't know what I did but I will give you all my steps anyway.

Uninstalled VMware Workstation (vmware-installer -u vmware-workstation) with all settings removed.

Downloaded the kernel Headers (because I had upgraded the Headers to try and get the new version working)

Installed VMWare Workstation 9.0.1 which wouldn't run because of header issues

Installed VMWare Workstation 9.0.2 as an upgrade.

Ran it, it worked.

I'm guessing there is just an issue with the upgrade to 9.0.2 which is unfortunate.

I tell my work that Linux is a net productivity gain which is why I can run it in a Windows shop, however much I gain in productivity though I probably lose whenever I get an issue - a day or so lost because of this.
